I like the steampunk genre a lot. In my single player world I use the John Smith texture pack but I can’t find it updated for 1.6.2 yet so I’ve not been using it. I have found a resource pack called A’therys Ascended that I’m falling in love with. Regardless, I’m building everything in vanilla so everyone can get the same perspective. But, if someone else has tried out, or would like to try out the resource pack with me and give me your feedback, please do. It fits nicely in placing a mood. Just wanted to share that…
Also, along with the steampunk, I’m dying to build an airship. I’ve built only one pirate ship and frankly, it rocked. The sails were derpy because it’s hard to get the effect of wind blowing into them, at least back then, but other than that, it was amazing. I also have experience in building in high places safely. I spent some time on a Sky Den server and built towers and detailed bridges. incredibly hard work, but so gratifying. I’m really quite confident that I can build a ship high up in the air. I think it would be awesome at spawn to look up through glass and see these fantasy gizmos buzzing around. So, here’s the catch…
I wanna fly them.
Now, there’s an aircraft (zeppelin) mod that allows you to do just that. You can build whatever you want in whatever shape, pick it up and fly it around. Technically, you can use this mod on a submarine you’ve built and go underwater. You can build an RV like me and actually drive it down the road. But, I just wanna fly. Put your arms around me baby, put your arms arou…..
There’s also an airship mod that allows you to make hot air ballons to fly in. They’re relatively small in comparison (only 5 blocks high give or take) and they all look identical, except you can dye the small balloon different colors.
My question to you, since we are against hacking, is using a mod that allows flight considered cheating? If you think so, forget I’ve said anything at all and we’ll drop the idea completely. The thing is, it’s a mod, no a plug-in, so you wouldn’t be affected by it. You would see me floating around out of nowhere, unable to see my kick ass UFO im sitting in. Just wanted some people’s opinions. I’m a true blue vanilla player and don’t use mods at all, but flying around in something you’ve built sounds like a blast to me! What you think???
Creepers, blocks-

I would love to get that mod but I think most people on this server want it to stay regular with no mods. I am not against it and want to see what others think…

Sounds like it would devalue things like the nether hub and railways because flying would just make it too easy to get places.
But maybe if there was just a certain area for flying? I’d be ok with that.

If you’ll allow a rebuttal. Flying does not make traveling between two points completely easy, but the ability to teleport on the other hand, does. I argue that if we are going to have a system that works for instant teleportation, why not slower means of travel? Airships only move at the normal rate of a regular boat, which you can out run on foot, be it not for the water. We have horses, which are faster three fold to boating. Hell, even pigs could out run one. The only real tactical advantage is making yourself safe from mobs, which personally, is not the reason why I would be doing it, although I see others having the potential to exploit this. Not my case. I simply want to build something amazing and see it move. I want to create a “thing” and control it and see it soar.
If anyone has ever played with me knows, I love caving, but I only cave in order to acquire resources for builds. My vault is no where near full. I live like a hermit in a bunker under my RV. I’m a builder. I’d like to say I’m a pretty decent player on survival hard, but my forte is building things. I’ve never wanted to use a mod so bad in my life. The controls suck, the movement is slow, but it still seems awesome. It would be impossible to work with in order to aid in building projects.
Just throwing copper in the bucket.
Regardless, I still plan on building airships, even if they’re stationary and never move.

I like the ideas you have for wanting and i will share in some of them. The only reasons I wouldn’t are that it might cause lag. It would also make it harder for people to play on the server due to having to one make an account on here then the other is downloading a mod just to play. Other that those i see no problem with it. I personally don’t mind to much.

Valid points, I agree with you now I think it’d be awesome. But only if it doesn’t lag like he said.

Unfortunately, upon further study, I do not believe this is available for multiplayer for some reason.
